The Expanded Career Progression System (ECPS) for public school teachers in the Philippines offers two main career paths: Classroom Teaching (CT) and School Administration (SA)Teachers can choose to progress within either path, or even switch between them. This system aims to provide a clearer, more structured career advancement for teachers, leading to increased motivation, higher salaries, and improved quality of education.

Classroom Teaching (CT) Career Line:
  • Master Teacher Levels:
The CT career line includes positions ranging from Teacher 1 to Master Teacher V.
  • Promotion to Master Teacher:
To advance to Master Teacher levels, teachers must meet specific criteria, which include demonstrating highly proficient teaching abilities and completing professional development programs.
  • Increased Stature and Compensation:

School Administration (SA) Career Line:

  • School Principal Positions:
The SA career line includes School Principal I through School Principal IV.
  • Leadership Roles:
Teachers who choose the SA path can move into leadership roles within schools, contributing to school management and improvement.

  • Key Features of the ECPS:
    • Professional Development:
The ECPS emphasizes professional development for teachers, with specific programs designed to support their advancement.
    • Meritocracy and Competence:
The system aims to promote teachers based on their merit and demonstrated competence, rather than solely on seniority.
    • Standardized Qualifications:
The Department of Education (DepEd) works with other agencies to standardize qualifications for teaching positions across all levels of basic education.
    • Enhanced Motivation and Job Satisfaction:
By providing clear career paths and opportunities for advancement, the ECPS aims to enhance teacher motivation and job satisfaction, contributing to the quality of education.
    • Reclassification Processes:
The Department of Education (DepEd) will reinforce reclassification processes to allow teachers to progress based on merit and competence.
